Pietro Adamo, born in Toronto, Canada in 1955, is a distinguished abstract modern artist. He pursued his passion for art by enrolling in the Fine Art and Art History program at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College. After completing his studies, Adamo dedicated two decades to teaching art at Chaminade College School in Toronto, where he played a pivotal role in establishing a robust visual arts department. Many of his students have gone on to become prominent architects, designers, illustrators, and fine artists.

Throughout his teaching career, Adamo continued to create art, executing numerous private and public commissions. His work is heavily influenced by artists from various periods and the world around him, with travel, particularly to his ancestral homeland of Italy, serving as a significant source of inspiration. These journeys allow him to explore both monumental art and the intricate details of rural landscapes.

Adamo's artistic journey is marked by continuous exploration and growth. His paintings on paper and canvas have garnered a constant audience, and he has also released a highly successful series of hand-pulled prints and posters. Today, his works are showcased in galleries and collections around the world, reflecting his enduring impact on the art world.

The enduring relevance of painting in the face of ever-changing technology is indeed a phenomenon.  It draws an audience, and has a following even as the threat of A.I. looms large.  Do not bet against it.  Painting has been declared “dead” as a medium for so many and so often that one might consider it a futile pursuit. Perhaps the directness of painting with all of its flawed primitive nature and simplicity makes humans yearn for more of it.  It is a very human act.  A mark on canvas is akin to a primal scream.  It beckons to be heeded and aches for a response. 

I don’ t recall a time in my life when I didn’t paint.  Art is in my family’s DNA.  Art is in the Adamo signature.

I have spent the better part of more than half a century exploring, developing, analyzing, refining, and destroying everything I have learned just to start the process over again  The relentless pursuit of imperfection. For it is in the flaws and the unresolved that one finds interest, intrigue and mystery.  A piece is never truly finished.

A hanging piece is simply a current state of affairs.
